Well I guess I should start with my name, Kari Dickerson here. I grew up in the Grand Rapids Michigan area, moved to Rockford but most recently reside about 45 minutes north on a small lake. I work in the hunting, fishing, boating, and outdoor lifestyles industries. I work for a company called ShowSpan, which produces 14 consumer shows mostly in the West Michigan market. I specifically work on a team that manages three sport shows and two major boat shows. I help to create a platform for the hunting/fishing/outdoor communities where they can come together to provide products and/or services to the public under one event. It is something pretty special to have your work reflect your passions. I pretty much love most things outdoors, well except the snow here.
When I’m not working, you can find me hunting, fishing, traveling, hiking, and boating. I have one son and a granddaughter who I now get to introduce to what I feel passionate about. She creates so much joy and I love to watch her fall in love with my loves. I truly enjoy Michigan and all the resources it offers. I’m appreciative of all the opportunities my work and personal life continue to create. It's a cliché, but I try each day to live my best life.
What’s your favorite thing about ORORO?
I have yet to try but certainly looking at ordering the seat cushion!
What are the best 3 words to describe yourself?
Adventurous - I LOVE a good adventure, it is what makes me who I am. I would be lost without the feeling of being able to explore, do new things, experience something on a different level, or push myself past my comfort level. I make sure this happens in my life, it certainly has added much value beyond pictures.
Genuine - I am who I am & what you see is what you get. I do not fluff it, what I say/do is a reflection of what I truly believe. No sugar coating but real. I have learned I do not need to compare or live beyond means which has made my life whole.
Passionate - If I believe in it or behind it I am all in whether it be in my career or outside life. The outdoors is my passion from hunting, fishing, hiking, or exploring here in the mitten state. I have been lucky enough to travel to some pretty amazing places but that comes with a fishing pole. I hope to someday be lucky enough to do the same for hunting but until then, my passions have created who I am today both professionally & personally ~ blessed.
Please share a short story about an important challenge that you've overcome (in your life, hobby, or profession
The absolute most important challenge that I overcame was finding me, who I was/wanted to be, and my voice. I won't focus on the negative leading up to this but a solid ~ did what was best for me. That was a profound moment in my life where I began to be me. I began to live my life by my ideals, my thoughts, my dreams, my goals, and so much more. I found the strength and courage to become the person I am now and who I am proud of. This is who I am. It certainly was not an easy path, people got hurt & for that I am sorry, but wow I would have missed out on so much. I found my love for the outdoors, well most of it anyway except winter. We have this one life, so live it ~ I say this to myself, often.
