Seven Reasons Why Pro Snowboarders Choose ororo Outerwear

For professional snowboarders like Lexi Bullis and Joanna Dzierzawski, winter is a time to pursue passion. But it also brings challenges, like financial hurdles and harsh weather conditions. Finding the best heated snowboarding jacket is essential for a sport that demands peak performance in freezing temperatures.

We sat down with ororo ambassadors and professional snowboarders Lexi and Joanna to learn more about their sport and how we can keep making the best products for them and people like them.

Pro Snowboarders Demand More of Their Outerwear

Like all competitive snowboarders, the US Snowboard Racing Team has a unique set of needs when choosing outerwear. They demand more out of jackets, vests, and other outerwear than other winter sports enthusiasts. Lexi described many days battling dumping snow, freezing rain, and whipping wind. “Some days, it’s soaking wet out there, and we need more than just a basic layer.”

Heated Jacket

Weatherproof Performance Heated Jackets

Snowboarders and skiers are no strangers to inclement weather. Ororo’s ski and snowboard jackets are engineered with a two-layer waterproof/breathable shell and fully seam-sealed construction to create a snowboarding jacket ready for whatever weather Mother Nature can throw. We modeled our snowboarding jacket to reflect what pro snowboarders like Lexi and Joanna emphasize. Weatherproof means that your heated ororo jacket remains a warm, cozy retreat even on the worst weather days.

Heated Jackets Made for Athletics

There are many uses for heated jackets. However, for snowboarders and skiers, a heated jacket must offer all the benefits of warmth while still being able to move functionally. Too much bulk or bulk in the wrong places would get in the way of sports and athletics. ororo’s St. Moritz Heated Snow Jacket is designed with athletic function in mind. Thermolite TSR insulation allows for a warm but lightweight design with ergonomic heating zones thoughtfully incorporated. Snowboarders will feel at home with a powder skirt, forearm pass pocket, pit zips, and a helmet-compatible adjustable hood.

Warm Muscles, Better Performance

Warm muscles perform better. Research has shown that cold muscles are more prone to injury and less responsive. A 2021 study stated that a 1° C (~0.6° F) drop in muscle temperature could equate to a 4-6% decrease in power and VO2 max related to explosive or anaerobic exercise. Plus, discomfort from the cold can be distracting.

Adjustable Heat Settings

Three heating settings–low, medium, and high–means you can adjust your jacket for the snowboarding conditions on hand. Turn it to high on a windy chairlift ride, off while you hike to the ridge, or on low for steady, chilly-weather conditions. For ororo ambassador Joanna, it’s essential to turn the heat settings off when she’s working hard on her snowmobile, cranking through heavy snow, and then turn her jacket heat up as her body temperature comes down, taking a break in the snow. Adjustable heat settings on your snowboarding jacket allow you to switch activities without switching gear.

Heated Jackets with Battery Life

Imagine your heated jacket losing power halfway through a cold day on the slopes. We pride ourselves on reliable, long-lasting batteries, so you know you can stay warm snowboarding all day. Plus, our batteries have battery life indicators and quick-charge options, making planning and pivoting easy.

Smart Battery Pack Placement

We pay attention to all the details at ororo, even down to the best spot for the battery pack. We intentionally stash the battery pack in a low-impact zone. US Snowboard Race Team athlete Lexi remarked, “Our battery packs are positioned well, so even if we fall, they don’t get in the way.” As anyone who has spent time on the slopes can attest, snowboarding and skiing come with a risk of falling. It’s important to emphasize safety with performance.

ororo’s waterproof/breathable shell, adjustable heating system, and thoughtful design make for a snowboarding jacket that’s not just warm; it’s also perfect for athletics--lightweight, flexible, and protective against the wettest and coldest conditions. Lexi Bullis

Lexi Bullis

Lexi didn’t grow up with the vision that she’d someday lead the US Snowboard Racing Team. She was born in the Midwest, far from big ski resorts and mountain towns. As a kid in Wisconsin, Lexi competed as a ski racer from age 10-16. Then, she switched to snowboarding and quickly applied the rules of ski racing to snowboard racing and excelled. Now 24, her love for the sport drives her despite obstacles.

The US Snowboard Racing Team is independently making their way toward the 2026 Winter Olympics Games. “Everyone on our team has to fund themselves,” she explained, noting that many team members juggle bartending, waitressing, or even engineering jobs in the off-season to make their snowboarding dreams a reality. Lexi runs her own Alpine Soap Company to fund her snowboarding season.

Joanna Dzierzawski
